Joe Pernice to Play Stars Hollow: Is One Tree Hill Next?

From the people at Ashmont Records, the Mass.-based label the Pernice Brothers call home, comes this interesting news:

"Joe Pernice will make his episodic television debut in an upcoming Gilmore Girls. He will play one of several Stars Hollow troubadour-wannabes that descend on the town after the regular troubadour, Grant Lee Phillips, is discovered by Neil Young and whisked off on a tour. Joe will sing a yet-to-be-determined song. No word yet on who the other troubadours are, but knowing the excellent musical instincts of the Gilmore gang, it will undoubtedly be good. I do not yet know the air date, but will post as soon as I do. Joe heads out to Burbank next week to tape. I know I have a proclivity toward making things up, but this is true. I swear to God."

Over the years, Gilmore Girls, which airs Tuesdays on the venerable WB, has featured quite a bit of the Pernice Brothers' music on its soundtrack, along with other surprisingly tasteful tunes from Yo La Tengo, Pavement and various other indie rock luminaries. They've also had characters reading hip mags like the Big Takeover and Punk Planet. Can a Junkmedia mention be far off? Yes, yes it can.

In other news, Pernice and Co. recently completed some sessions deep in the heart of Connecticut for their follow-up to last year's lovely Discover A Lovelier You. The new recordings reportedly have Michael Deming taking on keyboard and arranging duties. Deming last collaborated with Pernice on the first Pernice Brothers album, and was largely responsible for the beautiful string arrangements that made Overcome By Happiness a bona fide orchestral pop masterpiece. No word on when the new album will be in stores, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, why not check out this interview we did with Mr. Pernice last year? Or this one from way the fuck back in 2002? Why not indeed?
